Fun and Not So Fun

We had a great time on vacation. Pics to come sometime. But this post isn't about our fun in the sun and not so sunny California. That will come later.

Two days into our vacation, we got the very sad news that Clint's grandfather had passed away. We made preparations to shorten our getaway by a couple of days so that we could be sure to be there for the funeral the following Monday.

Clint's grandfather, Orval Joey Barnes, was an amazing man and I am very glad to be able to have been part of his family for these past 13 years. He always had a story to tell and was always a very quiet, good-natured man with kind eyes and a gentle smile for all the kids and grandkids. He and his wife Effie have 148 great-grandchildren between the two of them! It's a long story :) The funeral was very nice and extremely touching for all that attended - not a seat in the house was left empty. He was laid to rest with a 21-gun salute and full military honors (which brought me to tears on several occasions) with his loving wife and their 12 children in attendance (at least I think all 12 were there - someone correct me if I'm wrong).

We love ya grandpa. We miss you!!!!! Keep an eye on us - We'll see ya soon.

  1. Sorry for your loss. He looks like a nice man. 148 great-grandchildren, WOW! Are you related to just about everybody in town?!
